John Chang Senior Coach was born in the year of the Monkey, in Liverpool, to Chinese parents. He has had a keen interest in martial arts from an early age.
Aged 17 he began to practise Karate in Liverpool with Andy Sherry and Bob Poynton. During the early 1960s, he joined the famous "Red Triangle Club" and he was fortunate to train with world famous Sensi Enioda and Sensi Kanazawa.
Before taking up Tai Chi in 1986, John also trained in Judo and Aikido and has also practised some Wing Chun and Capioera.
John Chang began his Tai Chi training in Rochdale under John Bolwell, learning some of the Yang Style and also the Chen Style New Frame. He also took part in a seminar with Professor Li De Yin on the Simplified 24 Step Yang Form.
John had also practised some Wudang Style Tai Chi before joining the British Chen Style Tai Chi College in 2003. Since then he has studied the Chen Style Tai Chi system in detail with Master Sue Johnson, covering Old Frame, Old Frame Cannon Fist, sword, sabre and pushing hands. A keen practitioner of staff, and stick forms, John also practises the sword, sabre, fan and flute.

Apart from his weekly training within the British Chen Style Tai Chi College, John also maintains his Tai Chi on regular training visits to China.
There he has trained with Master Chen Bin (son of Chen Zheng Lei). He has also made several training trips to China to train with Master Liu Yong at the Manlian Tai Chi Club (pictured) and has also trained with him during his UK visits.
John Chang has worked as a psychiatric nurse, a health visitor and a lecturer in nursing at Salford University. He has also studied Shiatsu, (acupressure massage) and is a Reiki healer.
He holds a degree in Psychology , a Certificate in Education and also a City and Guilds Teaching qualification.
He also practises and teaches Wild Goose Qigong and continues his Qigong training at the Bury Qigong class run by Sue Johnson. He also trains annually with Qigong Master, Dr Bingkun Hu and has received his certificate for 200 hours of Intensive Qigong Training.

A teacher of Tai Chi and Qigong for more than 20 years, John Chang is experienced in teaching in Adult Education, Further Education, for Primary School pupils and University students.
As Senior Coach of the British Chen Style Tai Chi College, John has taught for Oldham Lifelong Learning and also teaches Tai Chi in leisure centres and Day Care Centres. He also runs a Tai Chi class in Uppermill. John lives in Rochdale.
